Fashion is a Two-Faced Bitch: I got nothing....

Yesterday being Halloween, I had no time to shop for this Friday's F=2FB post inspiration.  Like any quick-thinking, under-prepared professor, today I will make you do all the work.

Ready?  Notebooks on the floor.

Jump suits:  Good fashion idea or bad fashion idea and why?

Next question:  This is an opinion piece.  You'll be graded on the originality of your reasoning.

Hot or not hot?

And finally, what was your favorite all-time ensemble?  What did you wear to death and hate to give up? What fashion trend did you mourn the death of?  I'll tell you mine if you'll tell me yours.

Have a happy and productive Friday, friends!

Chicken out

  1. I liked jumpsuits during the time they were in. In retrospect I am not sure why. Probably some on the uniformity of color elongates the body. Because I am short that might of worked.

The Disco era...UGH...It's the men's fashions of the mid to late 70s that were the worst. Plaid pants, leisure suits in ugly colors...ick.

I must be flighty about my clothes. I don't recall anything that I hated to part with because of the fashion style of it. I have hated when a pair of jeans wears thin because I like the fit ...that sort of thing. I tend to like classic clothes and they have been around most of my adult life.

As for mourning the death of a style....OK...I have to cheat here because the style that I would mourn was way before my time. I would of loved the style of the 1940s. In the old Hepburn movies, her trousers and blouses were very chic looking. The women's dresses were cut on the bias and very flattering. Makes the bell bottoms and flowered blouses that I grew up with very tacky in comparison.

    1. Hi Cheryl, wow, I think we must be related. I had a jumpsuit once. It was purple and black. It's best not to talk about it. And I'm not a fan of precious clothes on men. I think that might be a whole blog post. Interesting that you like the 1940s. I have to google it. I am a fan of Hepburn looks but she is what I call the ultimate Gamine. The things she looked great in work for a small population of people. I would like to be gamine. I am not, so much. Death of a style. hmmm. How about birth of a style? I was really sad to see peg legs come back. Not my best look. And my favorite ever out fit was from the days when I ran and ran and ran some more. It was a t-shirt from my first 10 miler and a pair of orangey running shorts that fit just right. Then. They would not fit now. But I wore that t'shirt until I wore holes through it.

  2. My husband thinks that jumpsuits look hot and make a girl look hot. I think that most fashions look nicer than they are, if they are worn when they are in trend for that time period only. In the picture you have posted the one worn by the girl in the middle can be worn in spite of being outdated fashion wise if it is worn by a celebrity only. It is unfair but sometimes important people do get away with fashion NO NOs.

    1. Hi Munir-would you wear a pantsuit/jumpsuit? I would not but I had one once. Exactly one. In the 80s.

  3. I hope you're an easy marker.

Jumpsuit: bad fashion choice. Because of all the undressing you have to do to go to the ladies room. I know that doesn't seem fashion related, but wetting yourself isn't going to win any fashion prizes, so I'm sticking to my answer.

Opinion piece: Disco, JT and the Bee Gees ... HOT, of course. Especially when they're all woven into your university memories which was the first independent time of your life having grown up in the sticks and never gone out with anyone before ... oops, going on a bit much about all that, sorry. Bear in mind that this was also before JT went all square-looking (literally - he's got a square head now, how does that happen?) and joined the you-know-who's.

Favourite all-time ensemble: black stovepipe trousers and a green smocky Indian cotton top - trust me, it was the height of fashion (late 70's) and one of the only trendy things I ever got when it was still a trend.

I mourn hot pants (late 60's). And the legs to wear them.

For someone who doesn't even think she is interested in fashion, I seem unable to shut up.

    C'mon, Chicken, it's your turn :)

    1. I've had wine tonight, Jenny_O, so I just may have deleted your lovely comment that made me laugh out loud and snort said wine. If that happened, I apologize. I did not mean to. I just hit the wrong button. You gotta believe me. ahem.

Jumpsuits: You are so right! You win! This is exactly why jumpsuits, like one piece bathing suits, are a fashion bitch.

Disco: Okay, I'm sorry, we disagree, although I shared your fantasy. I just don't appreciate slick, I guess, but I did spend every Saturday afternoon at Yvonne's house practicing the hustle with all the neighborhood girls. No, still not a good dancer. And I know what happened to John's head. Because Aliens.....

Favorite Ensemble: I used to run, long time ago, but I did it a lot, and I had this one t-shirt I loved, and a pair of orangey shorts that fit just right. I wore them out and bleached them to death. I finally got rid of them a couple years ago. I haven't run seriously in 15 years, but I just held on to them because, well, I always intended to get back to it, you know? I also had this cub scout shirt once, which I wore ironically, long before hipsters were cool which, I think, makes me way super uber cool for being so nonchalant in my cub scout shirt back in 1983. I mourn jeans that don't cling. And I know what you mean about thinking fashion is not your thing and then not being able to shut up about it. I talk about it all the time. While wearing all black.

  4. Travolta, BeeGees, all those of the disco era and their clothing...totally hot at that time to this teenaged girl's mind. Favorite all time ensemble? Hmmmm...there are several, so I'd have to think about it. Can't wait to hear yours!

    1. Shelly, I have to admit, I still love the BeeGees. Travolta I was a bigger fan of in "Michael". When he said, "I'm not that kind of Angel"? Well. Still one of my favorite lines. But Stayin' Alive? Still on my personal top 40. oh oh oh oh i should go to bed, oh oh oh oh but I'm havin' fun stayin' alive.....I'll regret this tomorrow.
