Will I ever learn...

I had a good subject for today's post.  It was right there, last night, shimmering and pulsing in the forefront of my mind.

"I should write this down", my  more practical left brain stated.

"You should pour another glass of wine and chill",  my right brain replied.  "It's just getting to the good part.  Ramona is going to tell Andy to zip it and Luann is going to spill the beans on Ramona's marriage.  You'll miss the fireworks!"

"But we'll forget if we don't write it down.  History has proven this."  Left brain is nothing if not persistent

"Soooo, you don't like wine and classy entertainment, is that it?"  Right brain is nothing if not sarcastic.

Guess who won.

Don't you worry your sweet little head about it, though.  I know that idea will come back from wherever good ideas wander off to when the aren't written down.  Hopefully, it will  come back at a more convenient time when I'm standing by with a pen and piece of paper.

Do you have to write down your good ideas before you forget them?  If you don't write them down,  will  you forget them?

Chicken out

  1. I think of good ideas all the time, but if I could remember them I'd be blogging instead of writing too-long comments ... Or, maybe not, because I've tried writing them down (usually they arrive when I'm driving, so that's a little iffy) but when I go back to read them I can't figure out what the heck was so insightful/funny/intriguing. It's like writing down a dream - makes sense at the time but it's totally incomprehensible when you take a good look later. You, my friend, would not have that problem. I think you could write about dust and make it work.

    1. Hi Jenny-I do occasionally write things down. Not lately, but I was doing well for awhile. If I looked back at them, I'm sure there would be a fair amount of head scratching going on:-) That might make a good post for tomorrow, actually. Thanks for the idea. The beauty of it is I don't even have to write it down now.

  2. I so envy those prolific writers who have a kazillion ideas going on all the time. I struggle constantly with coming up with things to write about, so if I do get an idea, get the hell out of my way, because I will take you down to get to a notepad.

    1. Hi Jayne, me too! My mistake is that I'm always sure the idea is so ripe with promise that I couldn't possibly forget it.

  3. When I was in rehab from my stroke, Vanna, my awesome speech pathologist gave me a mnemonic device to help me remember things. It was WRAP:
    W=write it down
    R=repeat it a few times
    A=associate it with something you know you will remember, and
    P=??? I haven't a clue.

    Yes I tried the Google. It was no help at all. I guess I could call Vanna and ask her, but I'm far too embarrassed for that. Another blogger suggested I just make something up that starts with P so I came up with:
    P=pretend you know what the P stands for.

  4. Vanna? Vanna gave you letters? haha. I would have made that P work for me. P for party. P for procrastinate, P for....well, I guess you did that, too? We're clever people, Doug...
